UberEATS launches Pop-Up Kitchen to support local up-and-coming chefs
/UberEATS, the on-demand food delivery platform, is giving up-and-coming Toronto chefs and aspiring restaurateurs a boost into the business.
The UberEATS Pop-Up Kitchen, which recently launched at Queen St. E and Greenwood, is providing four chosen restaurant teams a fully-equipped professional kitchen to test and launch a delivery-only food business.
"The cost of starting a restaurant can be hundreds of thousands of dollars and often requires months of construction, procurement, and planning," said Dan Park, UberEATS general manager in a blog post.
Running until May 31, the delivery incubator is a first-of-its-kind program designed to foster new restaurant concepts in Toronto with minimal financial commitment.
The four chosen restaurants are: nyam, which is creating gluten-free dishes using traditional West African ingredients; Lucky's, a Nashville hot chicken and southern comfort food startup; SugarKane, sweet spices from the Caribbean fused with a spicy, creole Cajun kick; and Cassia, creating Thai and South Asian dishes launched from a series of pop-up dinners.
In addition to the space, these budding restaurateurs will be provided with mentoring around restaurant best practices from some of Toronto’s top food and hospitality professionals. Topics will include menu design, customer service and managing food costs.
Each of the four budding chef teams get a featured spot in the UberEATS app. Visit ubereatspopupkitchen.com for more details.
