East end trivia nights: Where to put your useless knowledge to the test
/The local trivia night, a place where brainiacs flock to prove that knowledge of obscure facts is truly worth all that head space. The levels of healthy competition vary between venues and happy hours, so depending on how seriously you take your trivia, it ranges from “I almost made it onto Jeopardy” to “I just want an excuse to booze with friends."
Know-it-alls and useless knowledge buffs unite — we’ve got the perfect places to flex your brain muscles around Toronto's east end. Posse up a clever gang, put your heads together and arm yourself with knowledge of film, music, geography, science and other random factoids. Winners get bragging rights, and there are usually drink specials and great prizes thrown into the mix.
TRIVIA CLUB AT HITCH
Found in pubs across Toronto, Trivia Club lands at Hitch every other Monday hosted by Russel Harder. Free to play, participants duke it out for the Hitchens Cup through three rounds of team-based trivia excellence. The first round is classic pub-style trivia, called Trivia Classic! The second round is Game Show Games, interactive questions based on well-known game shows. The third round is fewer questions for more points, called Tri-Pardo, followed by the Trivia Finale. Come early, before 8 p.m. to enjoy drink specials and to save your team a table It's an evening of pop culture and general knowledge trivia for groups of two to six.

TRIVIA NIGHT WEDNESDAYS AT DUNDAS AND CARLAW
If you consider trivia a sport, Dundas and Carlaw hosts trivia league on Wednesday nights hosted by local comedian Brian Ward. Register a six-person team for eight weeks of competitive brain-busters. Sponsored by Side Launch Brewing, every week there are prizes for the night's winning team, and at the end of the league there is a big prize for the grand champion, generally a few cases of beer or a house party. Next league starts Sept. 28.

HEAD SCRATCHERS PUB TRIVIA AT LOUIS CIFER
Head to Louis Cifer for pub trivia every Tuesday from 7:30 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. It consists of three parts: music, visual and general knowledge. The three teams with the best scores at the end of the night win prizes from the bar.The Danforth pub has also been known to host specific themed trivia nights (Game of Thrones, anyone?) on occasion.

Nothing to do on a Tuesday night? Leslieville's Thirsty Duck plays host to weekly trivia every Tuesday at 7:30 p.m. Sign up at the bar and test your skills against other local masterminds in a battle of knowledge. Next season starts Oct. 18 and runs to Dec. 13.
