District 28 launches Sunday brunch in time for Mother's Day

It's no secret that the east end is the brunch capital of Toronto, and now there's one more reason to celebrate the best meal of the week: District 28 Bar Bistro has launched Sunday brunch service — just in time for Mother's Day.

Starting May 14, the 55-seat Leslieville restaurant is rolling out six unique brunch dishes, plus a range of specialty espresso drinks as well as a selection of Sloan teas.

"We just want to come in with our fresh, family friendly taste of brunch: Healthy options, indulgent dishes, kids portions — there really is something for everyone in the family," says restaurant manager Roy Erez.

Among the highlights is jerk fried chicken and waffles, topped with a dill pickle mango slaw, orange ginger coulis, and Tahitian treat aioli.

The crab cakes eggs benny sees two poached eggs over lobster and crab cake with wilted red kale and a fresh hollandaise sauce.

Huevos rancheros is served with a twist on the brunch favourite — three fried eggs with black beans, a fresh mango avocado pico, chipotle maple aioli and a fried corn tortilla.

Eating healthy but you're hungry? The Clean Big Breakfast loads up six eggs (your way) with almond milk oatmeal and fresh berries.

For the little ones, the restaurant is rolling out child-friendly pleasers like golden dollar pancakes, peanut butter and jelly sandwiches, and French toast. Booster seats are available

"We're fortunate enough to be in an unconventional space, allowing us to have a variety of different seating options with large family-style tables, an abundance of bar seating and cozy two- and four-seater tables for smaller groups and couples," Erez says. "All this fits into a space that won't make you feel like you're sitting on top of one and another."

As a special kickoff to its new brunch service, District 28 Bar Bistro is offering 10% off the bill for the first 10 reservations on Mother's Day. All moms will also receive free specialty coffee all day.

District 28 Bar Bistro brunch runs every Sunday from 10am to 3pm. For reservations call 647-560-9557or email bar@district28.ca.
