A call for artwork has been announced in Leslieville on a public-facing building wall at Queen and Hastings.

With the opening of its George Condos sales office, developer Rockport Group is working with Toronto-based Artscape to showcase an original piece on the eastern corner.

Artscape, which is a non-profit that helps create spaces for artists and cultural organizations, is seeking proposals that aesthetically reflect the Leslieville neighbourhood, or the life of its founder, George Leslie.

The wall has seen a rotation of other installations over the years, including most recently a charicature and quote of musician Frank Zappa.

Slated for installation in early-August, the selected work will be reproduced on a 10’ x 16’ vinyl support and mounted for full display to the community 24 hours a day, lit from below after dark.

Applications are being received until May 20, after which time submissions will be reviewed by a selection committee, and a shortlist of three proposals will be commissioned and showcased to the public during a reception in the Rockport condo office. The winning work will be selected from this shortlist.
