The Brickyard Grounds has shut down its cafe at the corner of Gerrard and Greenwood. The owners announced the closure in a Facebook post on Sept. 30.

The sudden closure comes just over a year after the cafe reopened to much anticipation after the building was gutted by fire.

The Brickyard Grounds was a convenient hub serving up sharp coffee and comfort food in a warm environment. It fostered a strong sense of community amongst the people who came through its doors. In fact, the cafe's original run even helped to spur on a push to rename the surrounding neighbourhood as Bricktown, paying homage to the area's many brickyards in the late 19th and early 20th century.

"We believe in the neighbourhood, and look forward to promoting the growth of Brockton," reads the post.

The business is up for sale, and the owners are looking for a community-oriented buyer to take over operations or put a new concept into play. Contact realty@sophiek.ca for details.

We'll have to wait and see what's next for this space.
