Sweet Jesus brings frozen hallelujah to the east end
/Ice cream fans are lining up on Queen East for Sweet Jesus and its over-the-top soft-serve craziness. The third outpost of the popular dairy bar is now open in Toronto's east end just in time for warmer climes.
What started as a spin-off of La Carnita, one of the city's go-to taquerias, has taken on a life of its own in large part due to its imaginative, outrageous soft-serve cones. This isn't the soft-serve you remember from summers as a kid.
Sure, you can get the plain and dipped variety here, but it's the berserk frozen specialties at Sweet Jesus that really take things to the next level.
They don't call them 'pimped-out cones' for nothing. Giant swirls of soft-serve are decked out with toppings that run the gamut — from crumbled cookies to toffee bits, crushed nuts, candies, lime zest, graham crackers, marshmallows, cotton candy, and smothered in sweet syrups and sauces. Creamy, airy and oh-my indulgent, they're the stuff of the childhood dreams.
Amen.
All of this makes for one of the most Instagram-friendly dessert treats you've ever sunk into, and part of the reason Sweet Jesus has a massive following in its shops and on social media.
Sweet Jesus is operating street-side window service from La Carnita at 780 Queen St. E. Hours are from 5 p.m. till close (10 p.m. to 11 p.m.) Monday to Friday and noon to close on Saturdays and Sundays. Check out sweetjesus4life.com for details.
