Let’s face it: shopping for kids is tough. Fads change, children are fickle little creatures and you have to zig-zag across the city to piecemeal the things you need.

A fresh concept has launched in Leslieville — Kids At Home — that aims to be a one-stop shop specializing in modern furniture and decor for little humans. Originally in the Beaches, the just-opened space on Carlaw Ave. is under new ownership from Anthony Boulous, who is taking the brand in a different direction that includes a design facelift and product overhaul.

The gallery-like shop has a well-curated selection with thoughtfully crafted, one-of-a-kind furniture, decor, accessories and a multitude of other lovely kids' items. It’s not the sort of place to bargain hunt, but rather to become inspired.

"We don’t want to just be a local kids furniture store," Boulos says. "We want to inspire kids of all ages and parents with our growing selection of exclusive treasures and everyday practical lifestyle gadgets. People who shop here can expect to find unique, beautiful, distinctive pieces that have been lovingly chosen, in a modern uncluttered environment."

Kids at Home is focusing on a showcase of the best children's goods and modern products designed and made here in Canada.

"We’re proud to say that 80 per cent of our inventory is locally sourced," he says. "One of our objectives is to constantly provide more visibility to local designers and artists.  This is why we have exclusive partnerships with Canadian designers such as bouton jaune, Loic Bard, Karibu, Pekota, Veille sur toi and many others."

While most of the team is new, Boulous says the basic philosophy is the same: to bring to Canadian parents a selection of locally made kids furniture and lifestyle goods with a modern twist.

"We’re super excited about our new store and we look forward to serving Leslieville’s families."

Kids at Home is now open at 181 Carlaw Ave. Visit kidsathome.com for more information.
