The number of bars on Toronto's east side with a ping pong theme just jumped from zero to one with the opening of Smash Ping Pong Lounge along Queen East in Riverside.

Taking over the former Quad East space near Queen and Broadview, Smash is a 6,500 square-foot venue spread across two levels with 12 ping pong tables on which to serve, block, backhand, chop and, of course, smash.

The first floor is a social hall with seven ping pong tables and a 35-foot bar with a large seating area. The second floor features lounge space with four additional ping pong tables that will also serve as a private event space. There are also regular theme nights in the works.

Smash is offering a menu of pub fare including burgers, tacos and wings, plus 10 beers on tap and a cocktail and wine offering.

Smash is open Sunday to Wednesday 11 a.m. to 12 a.m. and Thursday to Saturday from 11 a.m. to 2 a.m. It's located at 672 Queen St. E. Visit smashpingpong.ca for more information.
