Gone is the sleaze of Jilly's, and nearly here is the revitalization of the historic Broadview Hotel.

Today, Streetcar Developments announced the much-anticipated reopening of the 125-year-old local landmark will take place in 2017.

If you can't wait until next year to see what's behind the curtain of its restoration, a ceremony will be held on Wednesday Oct. 5 at 7 p.m. to reveal the restored façade of The Broadview Hotel. ERA Architects, whose expertise lies in heritage projects, have been overseeing the building's exterior preservation and enhancements.

The newly revitalized Romanesque Revival exterior, which dates back to 1891, will be illuminated, marking the first milestone in the building’s transformation and welcoming a new generation to the city’s iconic east end landmark.

DesignAgency, the design firm bringing the inside to life, is paying consideration to the building's historical pedigree and tying its interior elements back to its local east end roots.

Replacing the brass poles and catwalks of its scuzzy past is a reimagined boutique hotel with 58 contemporarily designed guest rooms. Furnishing the suites will be timeless and eclectic accents that nod to the hotel's rich history. Some will even feature vertical gardens. Word has it that one suite in particular will "cheekily pay tribute to its storied past." Dare we say, bedside stripper pole?

The hotel will also feature 4,000 square feet of event space and a ground-floor restaurant that's a "stylized junction of urban industrial and turn of the century texture."

The lobby will function as a communal hub with a cafe and cocktail bar. Up top, an encased glass atrium and rooftop patio rises above the existing structure with a contemporary design and panoramic views of Toronto's cityscape.
