Leslieville's famous Alexander Muir mural to be replaced
/Leslieville's famous mural of Alexander Muir painted at the corner of Queen and Jones is set to be replaced.
A landmark of the east side neighbourhood, the mural has seen better days and is need of a refresh to fix peeling paint and the deterioration of the wall itself.
After an ill-conceived mural proposal drew an uproar from the neighbourhood last summer, plans are in the works to give the wall a proper makeover with input from the community.
In her recent newsletter, Ward 30 councillor Paula Fletcher says that while a face lift of the current mural is not possible, a selection process is underway to develop a new look for the wall. Being led by a group of representatives from the Leslieville BIA, the Leslieville Historical Society and the property owner, the committee short-listed six local artists to submit design proposals for a new mural. In the New Year, three finalists will be invited to take to the community for public feedback.
In January, there will be a public presentation where you can review the three submissions, speak with the artists, and share your thoughts on the proposals. The murals will also be posted online so residents who can't make it to the meeting still have the chance to give feedback. The artists will then have the chance to incorporate public feedback into their designs, and the committee will meet to choose a final design that best reflects the community consultations.
