Bike rentals launching at Toronto's beaches this summer
/Toronto beach-goers could soon be rolling along on two wheels.
The city has called a request for proposals to run a bike rental service in Ashbridges Bay Park, according to the Toronto Star.
Geared towards tourists and recreationalists looking for a leisurely cruise of the city's waterfront, the proposed amenity would differ from Bike Share, which is designed for shorter commutes and streamlined with Toronto's public transit system.
Local councillor Mary-Margaret McMahon told the Star that bike rentals are part of a larger effort to vitalize the Beaches and strengthen the local cycling network.
A winning bid requires the service be running by May 1 until October, and for the system to span Balmy Beach to Cherry Beach and out along the Leslie Street Spit.
