Welcome back local Olympian Penny Oleksiak at homecoming parade this weekend
/"Yo, sauce me a follow," states Penny Oleksiak's Twitter bio. This Sunday, you'll have the chance to do just that in real life by welcoming home one of the east end's very own Olympians.
To celebrate the achievements of the Olympic swimming star, the Beach Village BIA, DECA and councillor Mary McMahon are throwing a homecoming parade and party on Sunday Aug. 28.
When Penny Oleksiak left for Rio, she was another Olympic hopeful in the mix of Canada's mighty roster. She quickly became the face of Rio 2016, and this week she returned a four-time medallist and Summer Games sensation. The 16-year-old, who calls Toronto's east end home, is now a household name across Canada.
The Olympic parade celebration, which will honour both current and former athletes, begins at East Lynn Park at 11 a.m. before marching along Danforth Ave. and down Woodbine Ave. to Queen St. E. From there, the parade will head eastward into the Beaches before ending at Kew Gardens. An after-party to fete the Olympians will take place at the park from 12 p.m. to 2 p.m.
Don't forget to wear red and white, and bring a Canada flag or a sign of support!
