Baconfest returns to the Leslieville Farmers' Market

Baconfest

Bacon — everyone's favourite pork product — is set to take centre stage at the Leslieville Farmers' Market on Aug. 7. A love affair with all things swine, Baconfest returns for the fifth year in a row with vendors going head to head with their best bacon-themed recipes for a chance to win the coveted Golden Spatula award.

Weekly market regulars as well as chefs from local restaurants get into the mix of this popular event. This year's lineup is no different and will feature mouthwatering locally and sustainably sourced bacon and veggie bacon dishes all in one place.

Judges deliberate on the creativity, presentation, taste, ingredients, and overall bacon awesomeness.

The market dubs Baconfest as a celebration of local, sustainable, pasture-raised, antibiotic-free pork. Sounds great, but let's call a spade a spade — we all know it's just a chance to eat and, yes, even drink bacon, free of any guilt. Now, that calls for a party, right?

Some of the treats will feature vegetarian and tofu bacon, so even if you're against dining on swine, there will be snacking pleasure for all at the event.

The Leslieville Farmers’ Market happens Sundays from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Jonathan Ashbridge Park. Visit leslievillemarket.com for more details.
