You can now own a piece of the Distillery District
/Once operating as the largest whisky distillery in the world, the Distillery District has the largest and best preserved collection of Victorian-era industrial architecture in North America. And now you can own a piece of that rich history.
The Distillery District is selling reclaimed Douglas Fir wood from the Gooderham and Worts whisky houses. The wood, which was used for racks to support and age the whisky, was brought to Ontario from B.C. and dates all the way back to the 19th century. Talk about a conversation starter.
Today these whisky rack houses have been restored and re-purposed into theatres, art galleries, studios, restaurants and other commercial uses in this National Historic Site. Thousands of board feet of reclaimed wood beams harvested from the whisky houses were reused in the district's restoration and in the area's new condo buildings.
But there is still some material left over and now available for sale for the first time. The Distillery District old growth fir can be brought back to life in many uses such as flooring, ceiling, decking, moldings, paneling and furniture.
