Just as Toronto is entering the middle of winter, and days are short and dark, the historic Distillery District is set to be lit up with a spectacular display of lights.

The Toronto Light Festival is returning for its third year in a row, lighting up winter for 45 days from Jan. 17 - March 1.

The event is going to include glowing creations of every size and type including interactive installations and brilliant light art.

A visual exhibit designed to entertain and inspire, this year visitors can expect to see dozens of sculptures and installations with thousands of lights aglow throughout the Distillery's cobblestone streets.

It's one of the largest open-air lighting galleries in North America, featuring the creativity of local and international light artists.

There will also be heated patios and a food component to grab a drink or something to eat.

Toronto Light Festival will run Sundays to Wednesdays from sundown till 9 p.m. and Thursdays to Saturdays from sundown till 10 p.m. Admission is free.
