Sugar Loaf Bakery twists tradition in its newly opened Riverside cafe
/Sugar Loaf Bakery has opened the doors to its cafe near Queen and Broadview in Riverside.
A tastefully designed space, the cafe is bright and modern with a good amount of seating considering its size and take-out options in mind for customers on the go.
The presentation of the baked goods here is worthy of a trip in itself. Mini jars of s'mores cakes, panna cotta, marsala and chocolate cheese cake are displayed beside batches of freshly baked cookies and croissants.
Most of the sweet and savoury offerings at Sugar Loaf Bakery are made from scratch in-house and baked in small batches throughout the day, free of additives and preservatives, according to owner Rinaldo Angelicola.
The bakery follows traditional artisinal recipes but puts its own signature twist on each with the infusion of inventive flavours influenced from cultures as far-ranging as French, Italian and Brazilian.
Take the croissants, for example, they're made from scatch with nothing but butter but then given the Sugar Loaf treatment with such non-traditional flavours as dulce de leche and guava. The results are different and delicious.

Sugar Loaf pours coffee from Toronto micro-roaster Propeller, and has a selection of choice local teas from Pluck.
