Shut-down local businesses shift focus to community fundraising efforts
/Leslieville locals and businesses Torq Ride, Sweat and Soda, and Ozery Bakery are teaming up to provide healthy meals to the medical professionals and essential workers who have been working to save lives and keep the community going.
Within 24 hours of launch, the Gratitude, Delivered campaign, quickly surpassed the $2000 goal. The current tally is nearly double the original goal.
A $10 donation covers the cost of one meal, which will be prepared at Sweat and Soda and delivered to essential service, and healthcare workers in the community on Saturday, April 11th.
“We knew we would meet our goal - that’s just who our community is, but we didn’t expect to meet it in 2 hours and double it in one day,” says Julie Mitchell, founder of Torq Ride, Leslieville’s indoor cycling studio.
While both businesses have been closed for more than two weeks, due to the COVID-19 pandemic, that hasn’t stopped them from extending their roots deeper into the community.
Additional donations will be used to extend the program’s reach even further.
