Poor Romeo is an east end local dishing all-American and a side of rock and roll
/Taking over a vacated Chinese restaurant, Poor Romeo is the new local on the Gerrard block and the lil brother and across-the-street neighbour to Pinkerton's Snack Bar.
Despite its proximity, Pinkerton’s honcho Marc Baglio and chef Andy Wilson are bringing a decidedly different vibe to the new address.
Where Pinkerton’s serves up Asian snacks and a playlist of '90s nostalgia, Poor Romeo dishes Americana on its menu and its soundtrack.
Smashed burgers, smoked chicken wings and fried green tomatoes share a menu with oysters and shrimp cocktail (or both served together).
If you're rolling with a squad, you can snag a chef's table that seats 10 at the back of the bar and get in on a 12 oz. bavette steak or whole-roasted fish.
The cocktail nomenclature here draws heavily from rock n' roll influences: Gin Lizzy, Beast of Bourbon and Bon Scott are just a few of the signature drinks.
A selection of craft and old school beers are available — from locals like Blood Brothers to Molson Stock Ale and stuff your dad used to drink. The 10 taps change weekly, while the cans and bottles come exclusively in short and stubby formats, respectively.
The design of the space plays on the same rock and American vibe; vinyl records plaster one of the walls and there is a lot of wood and metal that makes up the decor. A long bar is lined with stools and two TVs can be turned on or hidden behind panels depending on the time of day.
Poor Romeo is located at 1029 Gerrard St. E.
