How to get involved with the new ward boundaries coming to Toronto

toronto wards

On Oct. 8, Riverside and Leslieville residents are invited to participate in a public meeting to provide their input on the five ideas put forth by the Draw the Lines Committee for the Toronto Ward Boundary Review.

The purpose of the review is to ensure that each person in Toronto has equitable representation at city council. Currently, Toronto ward sizes vary significantly in
population which leaves many Torontonians without proper representation. When voting on major issues at City Hall, a councillor representing a population of 45,000 constituents carries the same weight as a councillor representing 85,000. Further, all councillor’s operate under the same budgetary restrictions, limiting the resources and access to their councillor in more densely populated wards.

In the most recent report by the Draw the Lines committee, East York may feel the most significant changes with wards 29 and 31 increasing in size.

You can attend any of the public information sessions listed below before the final report is presented to the Executive Committee and Toronto City Council in May 2016. For more information, visit Draw The Lines.
