Do you have an art or design background? And live in the Dundas-Carlaw neighbourhood? If so, your input could be used to transform the eyesore of a parking lot at Dundas and Carlaw into a  symbolic landmark for the area.

The City of Toronto is moving ahead with public realm improvements in the Carlaw-Dundas neighbourhood, and part of that involves an overhaul of the surface lot where Dundas St., Carlaw Ave. and Dickens St. meet — otherwise known locally as the Carlaw-Dundas triangle. It's part of the City's ongoing plan to strengthen the zone as a hub for small businesses and cultural activities.

The City of Toronto is looking for local community representatives to participate on a selection panel for a design competition for a signature marker — a vertical streetscape element that can be seen from all directions.

According to the City, the design will embody the rich history and vibrancy of the district, and strengthen the neighbourhood's unique character.

The winning design will be chosen by a selection panel comprised of representatives from the City of Toronto, the project consulting team and three members of the community at large.

Application deadline is April 6.

Visit carlawdundas.ca for more information on applying for the design committee and the public realm initiatives taking place for the Carlaw-Dundas area.
