Leslieville greasy spoon Jim's Restaurant closing for condo development
/It's the end of an era for Jim's Restaurant. The old school diner and Leslieville institution is set to close for good Sunday, July 31.
According to Inside Toronto/Beach Mirror, the lot near Queen and Logan as well as the address beside it, currently home to Anchored Social Club, will soon be developed into a six-storey mixed use condo building.
They don't make 'em like Jim's anymore. A tried and true greasy spoon, it's a favourite among locals for its all-day breakfast and classic diner menu, and especially for laying claim to "The Best Westerns" on its signage emblazoned on the outside of the building.
The no-fuss diner has been in the neighbourhood since the 1960s, and is one of the last old school eateries remaining from Leslieville's blue-collar past.
Current owner George Dafos, who took over Jim's in 2000, has plans to relocate the business to St. Clair and Victoria Park with an August opening.
A note posted to the door of Jim's Restaurant reads: “We couldn’t have made it without you. Leslieville’s been a big part of our lives."
