A vacant lot and neighbourhood eyesore along Queen East near Bertmount Ave., which has for years succumbed to weeds, is set for a summer makeover.

Leslieville Community Market is cleaning up and taking over the lot for the summer season starting June 4, running Saturdays and Sundays from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.

The market will feature a fruit and veggie stand, plus rotating vendors from the community selling handmade goods, antiques, crafts and odds and ends.

Organizers plan to add a Friday night market later in June for the summer months.

To show appreciation, a vendor draw will take place at the end of the weekend for a vendor to win their next day free if they book one day or the next weekend free if they booked a weekend. The market will also be doing 10 draws of $10 each weekend for customers to spend at any vendor in the market the next weekend.

Leslieville Community Market is at 1134 Queen St. E. If you're interested in getting involved or becoming a vendor, contact Barry Hayes at barrymhayes@hotmail.com or 416-529-6189.
