The only thing that gets east end locals talking more than brunch is brunch lineups. Some laugh, some cry and some are just bitter — can someone think of the sidewalks?!

Local cafe Dundas and Carlaw is entering Leslieville's brunch game by flipping the script on lineups for everyone's favourite weekend meal. Owner Ruben Vina says that he’s ponying up $5 to anyone who has to wait more than five minutes to sit down.

"We know you love brunch, so imagine a brunch on the best patio in the east end and no lineups," Vina says.

In a neighbourhood where brunch is a borderline sport, this is what you call gaming the system. And it's got a strong value proposition: Imagine getting paid to nosh on a greasy breakfast sitting on a giant tree-lined patio while slurping down one of Dundas and Carlaw's famous Sleazers, a Cheetos-rimmed caesar.

Not bad, right?

The brunch program, which is being helmed by Fourk and chef Josh Sexsmith, features full English and Scottish breakfasts, fried egg and back bacon sandwiches and quinoa stuffed peppers.

The cafe is no stranger to off-the-wall promotional tactics including yard sales, free snow cones, barbecues and even a curling rink on the patio last winter.

This promotion kicks off in time for Father's Day on June 17. Visit the event Facebook page for more.
