Toronto’s Dundas-Carlaw neighbourhood has seen significant transformation from its time as an industrial precinct and historic railway corridor to the vibrant community it is today.

Now, the City of Toronto is officially recognizing its industrial days by bestowing on it the city's first ever Heritage Plaque District.

Dundas and Carlaw's past and transformation will be celebrated in an event June 17. Heritage Toronto will unveil 10 plaques, an interpretative pathway on industrial history and public space improvement projects.

The event kicks off at 1 p.m. at Jimmie Simpson Park with speeches and the unveiling a of a new plaque for Jimmie Simpson.

This will be followed by a 90-minute historical walking tour of the former industrial area during which the other new plaques will be featured, along with key Public Realm Improvement projects planned for the district.
