The abandoned Unilever Soap Factory in Toronto's east end will see a future of possibility when a 10-day expo takes over the space starting this Thursday.

The hulking industrial plant at the foot of the Don — where soap was manufactured for more than 100 years — will host EDIT: Expo for Design, Innovation and Technology from Sept. 28 - Oct. 8.

Produced by Design Exchange, in partnership with the United Nations Development Programme, EDIT will explore how design, innovation and technology can change the world for the better.

Design and technology visionaries from around the world will gather in the East Harbour to bring to life 150,000-square-feet and five separate floors into an immersive and playful experience.

Through interactive installations, programming, speakers and themed pavilions, the event will imagine a future where design and technology are the solutions to today’s pressing challenges.

Further, there will be a food component where visitors can try futuristic meals, such as cricket Bolognese.

Organizers are anticipating 100,000 visitors to EDIT, which coincides with Canada’s 150th anniversary celebrations, and also marks the 50th anniversary of Expo 67 and the 30th anniversary of DX to situate the country as a hotbed for innovation.
