Crate opens in Leslieville
/The subterranean space below Queen Margherita Pizza hasn't seen much tenant success since the beloved Red Rocket Coffee was forced to relocate to the Danforth several years ago. Rakia Bar had all the makings of a spot that could've taken off but a lack of community outreach about its unusual menu meant the the place was constantly struggling to attract a crowd. It closed and the location has sat empty ever since.
Now, newcomer Crate has opened on this quiet strip of Queen St., and is trying to make a go of it with a mixed focus as a daytime cafe and evening tapas bar. Minimal and raw, the space has a bright, inviting feel despite it being below-grade.
Espresso drinks and a stocked bar pair with a tapas menu that has a decent range of shared plates such as fish tacos, mini sliders and Korean short ribs to name a few.
Watch out for our full review to come.
Crate is now open at 1402 Queen St. E (Queen and Vancouver). For more info, check out their Facebook page.
