Bus Terminal Diner relaunches retro Danforth landmark
/A beloved east Toronto landmark since 1948, The Bus Terminal Diner has been given a new lease on life after closing down earlier this year.
The storied Danforth gem has re-opened in all its chrome and colourful glory. In soft-opening mode, Bus Terminal Diner is putting forward a family friendly focus with scratch-made all-day breakfasts and salads. The roll-out of a lunch and dinner program, with greasy spoon staples like old-fashioned burgers, will soon follow.
The diner's old school exterior has received an update, and modest changes have taken place inside. But the real heart and soul of this place, which epitomizes the classic diner vibe and hospitality, remains intact.
The eclectic, mismatched decor — retro kitsch, album covers, midcentury-era celeb portraits and the famous dragon head — is only outdone by its metallic teal booths, red checkered floor and simple but filling short-order plates.
It's all quick and reasonably priced, too. Even with the reboot, the breakfast above with an Americano, plus tip, came to $11.
Bus Terminal Diner is back in business at 1606 Danforth Ave.
